Industrial companies will have the opportunity to make a major contribution to grid stability in Austria as active participants in the energy system. Flexibilities can be used to economically utilise both surplus and shortfall production of electricity. How this should be designed in the future is being worked out by the consortium of Industry4Redispatch. In particular, the view of the needs and requirements of industrial companies are essential to develop a functioning system and to create incentives for industrial companies.

Since numerous research projects for deploying new green technologies are already well underway, within the NEFI Technology Talk with the collaboration of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) national (Austrian) and international industrial endeavours – in the context of selected decarbonisation topics – were presented and discussions encouraged.

Energy-intensive industries such as steel, cement and chemicals are responsible for a quarter of global GHG emissions. The potential for CO₂ avoidance is around 60 gigatonnes by 2030, but new technologies and innovations need to be developed until then, because around 2030 the next modernisation cycle is also due in this sector.

The worldwide innovation landscape offers an impeccable basis for developing novel solutions in reaching the targeted climate goals. Since numerous research projects for deploying brand new green technologies are well underway, we want to create the opportunity to aim for the next step.
