The NEFI innovation network of science, technology providers and companies demonstrates a pathway towards the transformation of industry
NEFI – Austrian Industry and Technology Developers Tackling the Energy Transition
The switch to renewable energies to achieve the European climate protection goals is a major challenge for the Austrian manufacturing and energy-intensive industry. At the same time, Austrian technology providers have a great opportunity to expand their market leadership position worldwide and make a significant contribution to securing Austria as an industrial hotspot. NEFI – New Energy for Industry will demonstrate the pathway for the transformation of manufacturing and energy-intensive industry.
The transformation of industrial production processes towards climate neutrality requires new technological approaches, particularly in the field of industrial heat. A key lever in this context is the electrification of industrial furnaces, which makes it possible to replace fossil fuels with renewable electricity and thereby achieve a sustained reduction in emissions.
The NEFI Technology Talk, “Electrification of Industrial Furnaces”, focuses on practical implementation examples, current developments, and available technologies.
TheADC Pilot Factorywill demonstrate solutions for a flexible and scalable low-voltage DC grid in a semi-industrial environment. Don’t miss it!
At the Austrian DC Pilot Factory, a machine tool and an industrial robot are connected as consumer within a DC microgrid. Renewable energy is provided by a photovoltaic system, while a bidirectional charging station, together with an electric vehicle, offers energy storage capability. When required, stored energy can be fed back into the DC microgrid. The factory’s energy management system monitors, controls and optimises the overall energy flow.
The new Electricity Industry Act (ElWG) introduces a range of changes for customers and electricity producers.
The focus of the event hosted by the OÖ Energiesparverband on 14 April in Linz was on what these changes concretely mean for manufacturing companies, and how businesses can make use of new opportunities such as flexibility, storage solutions, and energy sharing to reduce costs and enhance supply security.
As part of GreenBricks, an innovative energy concept for brick production was developed and successfully implemented at Wienerberger’s Uttendorf site in Upper Austria. The project demonstrates impressively how the combination of electrification, digitalisation and the use of heat pump technologies can enable an almost emission-free industrial production process.
