About us

Step into the Virtual Industry Lab – your gateway to exploring innovative solutions for climate-neutral industry!

The Virtual Industry Lab (VIL) is a central pillar of NEFI – New Energy for Industry, Austria's innovation network advancing industrial energy transformation by developing and demonstrating technological and systemic solutions. It provides a space where immersive technology meets climate-neutral industry solutions, demonstrating what's possible and accelerating real-world impact. As an integrated platform, the VIL combines two core components:

  • an immersive Virtual Showroom, where users can explore 3D visualisations of industrial projects using Extended Reality (XR) and
  • a functional Toolhub, offering practical digital tools tailored to real-world industrial energy use cases.

By making advanced technologies tangible and accessible, the VIL strengthens NEFI's mission to showcase innovations Made in Austria and support their adoption across sectors. It increases the visibility and impact of NEFI demonstration projects, fosters knowledge exchange among stakeholders, and positions Austrian solutions at the forefront of global industrial transformation.

From industry leaders and policymakers to researchers and students, the VIL empowers diverse actors to

  • explore pathways towards a climate-neutral energy system,
  • drive the transformation toward a sustainable, climate-neutral industry and
  • collaborate and exchange knowledge across sectors.

Connecting Stakeholders for Impact

The VIL connects stakeholders from energy, industry, technology, and policy, and fosters collaboration to share knowledge and drive sustainable innovation. If offers targeted engagement and easy access to resources supporting the specific needs of each group:

  • Industry & Energy Leaders: explore innovative energy solutions and implement new technologies
  • Policymakers & Public Authorities: gain insights to shape effective policies and regulation
  • Academia & Students: access real-world applications and digital tools for research and learning
  • Hub Co-Leads: facilitate project development and strengthen the experts' network

Whether you are a policymaker, hub co-lead, academic researcher, or industry expert – use the VIL to strengthen your efforts and foster progress in the energy transition.
